Legal Music Downloading at UNC Charlotte

The Student Government Association of UNC Charlotte recognizes and understands the issues of illegal music downloading from its students. In the past, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has fined & sued UNC Charlotte students for downloading music illegally, thus forcing them to drop of school, and go into debt to finance legal fees.
Legal trouble is certainly not what we wish upon our students - there are many viable alternatives available to illegally downloading music that are safe and cost effective. In the 2007 - 2008 school year, the SGA Executive Cabinet researched alternative solutions to downloading music illegally - which led us to two endorsements:

Article XIII - Ratification and Review


ARTICLE XIII. RATIFICATION AND REVIEW Section 1. Implementation. This Constitution shall take effect upon approval of the Chancellor, and shall supersede any previous Student Body Constitutions of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Article XII - Recall, Initiative, and Review


ARTICLE XII. RECALL, INITIATIVE, REVIEW Section 1. Recall. Any constituency shall have the power to recall any officer elected by that constituency under this Constitution. If the constituency is campus-wide, the petition to recall shall be presented to the Secretary of the Student Body and shall not be valid unless it contains the signatures of at least ten percent of the qualified voters.

Article XI - Amendments


ARTICLE XI. AMENDMENTS Section 1. Proposal of Amendments. Amendments to this Constitution may be proposed by three-fourths (3/4) of the membership of the Student Senate in good standing or by a petition signed by at least ten (10) percent of the Student Body.

Article X - Impeachment Proceedings


Section 1. Student Association. Any officer of the Student Association elected in the Student Body elections may be removed from office provided all of the following conditions have been met: a. A petition citing misconduct, malperformance, or maleficence must be submitted to the Student Hearing Panel Chief of Student Court with the signatures of at least ten (10) percent of the Student Body.

Artivle IX - The Class Council


ARTICLE IX. THE CLASS COUNCIL Section 1. Composition. Each Class President, including the freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, shall serve in the Upper and Under Class Councils. The Class Council shall include but not be limited to: a.
