Legal Music Downloading at UNC Charlotte

The Student Government Association of UNC Charlotte recognizes and understands the issues of illegal music downloading from its students. In the past, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has fined & sued UNC Charlotte students for downloading music illegally, thus forcing them to drop of school, and go into debt to finance legal fees.
Legal trouble is certainly not what we wish upon our students - there are many viable alternatives available to illegally downloading music that are safe and cost effective. In the 2007 - 2008 school year, the SGA Executive Cabinet researched alternative solutions to downloading music illegally - which led us to two endorsements:

At the September 28th General Assembly meeting of the 42nd Legislative Assembly of the Student Government Association of UNC Charlotte, senators overwhelmingly supported the Vote Against Repeal campaign 25-1-2.


49er Vote: Elections Welcome Senators/ Class Presidents into SGA Spotlight


Student Green Fee also receives campus approval.

UNC Charlotte students last week voted in unprecedented numbers to elect a total of four senators and two class presidents onto the SGA team. With the year containing many exciting prospects for the student body, SGA warmly welcomes the new officers to their respected positions.

Students also spoke in favor of the Green Fee proposal for energy efficient projects around campus with 71.7% of voting students supporting the $2.50 increase in student fees.

The elected class presidents include freshman Alyssa Reynolds and sophomore Jackquelynne Locklear-McLeod. The four elected senators include Devin McRae, Jason Feltis, Robert Demetrious and Robbie Gould.

1,902 ballots were cast in the election marking an evident increase in student votes over past years. SGA looks forward to the leadership contributions of those elected and the exciting ideas they will bring to the growing and diverse UNC Charlotte campus.
